Pasted Lakes, the first electronic music release by consummate sonic weirdo, Nick Forté, was released 20 years ago this year. To mark the occasion, Forté deciced to pop the cork and give the vintage album a few spins after many years in hibernation. The experience was both familiar and alien, a Sebaldian riddle in sound where points of recognition lift and fade in and out of a misty brew of memory and distance. Forté decided to have a go at ripping off this mine-cut diamond of a release and turning it into a newly faceted sequel. The passing of time, filled with many missions out into an ever widened aural universe, made returning to his beginner's clarity of mind unobtainable. The challenge, then, was to create a new quilt of sound where the panels of new interpretations are sewn together with the threads of remembered experience recalling a distant past bathed in the incandescence of more recent work.
